AI Agents Explained
Simple intro for people new to AI.
What's an AI Agent?
An AI agent is like a smart assistant that can see your screen, click buttons, fill out forms, and move information between tools. Unlike ChatGPT (which just answers questions), an agent actually does work.
Agent vs Chatbot
How Does It Work?
The agent looks at a screenshot, thinks about what to do, and does it. It might click a button, type text, read a document, look something up, or make a decision. If the page looks different than expected, it adapts.
Real Example
Without an agent: A lead fills out your form. Email sits in inbox. Your team gets to it in 4 hours. Lead already called someone else.
With an agent: Form arrives. Agent reads it instantly. Checks your database. Sends response in 2 minutes. Books a call if needed. All at 3am while your team sleeps.
What About Mistakes?
Agents aren't perfect. That's why we set up guardrails. The agent handles what it's confident about. For uncertain or important stuff, it asks a human. You always see what it did and why.
What Work Can They Do?
- Qualify and respond to inquiries
- Enter data from emails into your CRM
- Pull data from multiple tools and create reports
- Send follow-ups on a schedule
- Check on renewals and send reminders
- Answer common customer questions
Multiple Tools?
No problem. Agents work across Slack, Gmail, Salesforce, Shopify, Google Drive, whatever you use. They don't care that the tools weren't designed to talk to each other.
Timeline and Cost
Simple automations take 2-4 weeks. Complex ones take 4-8 weeks. Custom builds start around $3,000. After that, they cost almost nothing to run. Most clients see payback in 6-16 weeks.
